A 'Green' Christmas

A 'Green' Christmas...

Compliments of the season, dear readers!!!

A 'Green' Christmas? Yes, I know Christmas is nearly always green and it will nearly always be green and red and white and any other color we dream of attaching to the season. But this year's 'Green' is not the color, it's the attitude.

You know, in Eartheasy's article, "How to have  a Green Christmas", one of the tips on how to have a green Christmas is to Buy Smart, Think Green. But I'm just going to major on the Think Green part.

"According to a recent study by waste management company Biffa, the UK creates 30% more waste than usual over Christmas. This includes an estimated 227,000 miles of wrapping paper and 1bn cards that end up in the bin.

-  (Dreaming of having a Green Christmas? Here's how to make it true)

It's no news that a festive season such as Christmas requires all the 'festivity' necessary. We do have to show that it's Christmas after all. The grandiose, beautifully decorated tree is expedient. And then the gifts, with pretty decorative wrappings sitting quietly - or not - under the tree. Oh, we mustn't forget the food too. The heavenly crusted chicken laps or the rubbery chicken wings or if you're like me, KFC???

All of these should not be compromised, really, I mean what's Christmas without them. It's tradition after all. But how about we cut back a little. You're probably thinking 'That's a compromise already'. No, think about it this way, rather than do it exactly the way we did it before, let's do a touch up. An upgrade. What do you say?

3 THINGS:

  • Get a live tree, not the artificial one. Not only does it make the room feel more alive, it can be recycled.
  • Buy locally sourced gifts. It's really not the grandiosity of a gift that makes it the best. I know it is cliche to say this but it really is the thought that goes into it.
  • Now the food, this part could be quite tricky or for better use of words, slightly more difficult. So here goes - "Don't make extra, they won't turn up!!!", so there will be little waste and instead, opt for the most carbon-efficient cooking, lighting and heating.

OK, I know I said three, but here are a few more things to spice up your Christmas:

  • Have a family movie night
  • Surprise your loved ones with a mini bed in breakfast on Christmas day
  • Make a card, and send it
  • Smile, smile and smile
Oh and one more thing, record, record and post.

Make a shout-out to Stac Green Cyclings and send us bits of your videos and we'll upload them on our Instagram page.

"The House of Stac wishes you a very splendid Christmas and a Happy new year in advance.

Have fun!!!
